even if my head is regularly spinning afterwards: Meetings with the FPI Screening Board are among my favorite appointments! Last Thursday was the first time in 2023: for almost two hours we delved into my favorite topic and discussed detailed questions about the Universal Fair Pay Check. Joining us for the first time as a member of our seven-person board: strategy and compensation expert Jennifer S. Schulz, Senior Director at hkp/// group. I am delighted that Jennifer, with her passion and expertise for compensation topics, will be joining us for the next two years - welcome aboard the Fair Pay Rocket!
Mercer joined us as analysis partner: The international consultancy has more than 20 years of experience in compensation strategies and pay equity, has developed a strategic Pay Equity Calculator™ based on this experience and is now one of our cooperation partners. Also welcome on board!
New coordinates will be set for all of us by the new EU directive that was passed in Brussels shortly before the turn of the year and will soon ensure that:
- ... the burden of proof in matters of equal pay is reversed - it is not the employees who have to prove that they are paid unfairly, but the companies who have to prove that they pay all employees fairly.
- ... companies are obliged to ensure greater transparency.
- ... companies that do not comply with the new requirements must expect sanctions.
A long overdue course correction that will greatly accelerate development, and which I, as Fair Pay Captain, very much welcome!
Fortunately, I don't have to wait long until the next Screening Board Meeting. We usually meet quarterly to review new applications received and discuss the latest development - but this time we'll see each other again as early as mid-February.
I'm at least as excited about the next Best Practice Exchange with our companies, which is coming up in mid-March: The Jour Fix for Future Fair Pay Leaders is open to all companies registered for the Universal Fair Pay Check. How did others close all their pay gaps? What were the hurdles and challenges? And what can be learned from them? However, I can hardly restrain my patience until I am allowed to announce the very first Fair Pay Leader in Germany at the beginning of March, just in time for the German Equal Pay Day. That's why I'm now accepting tips – I bet you know the company!
