Milestones & setting the course: Best Practice Insights in Advent

Dear Miss/Mister ,

what a year that nearly lies behind us now! A year full of challenges, and a year in which many switches were set: In 2020, Spain declares to ban unequal pay for men and women to better cope with the crisis. In 2020, New Zealand keeps its election promises and guarantees wage justice by law in the future. And in Germany, the quota for women on executive boards will finally be introduced. Admittedly, the quota will not be the solution to all equality problems, but it definitely is an important milestone!

All this is good news for fair pay. In the long term, an increasing number of women in management positions means shrinking differences in pay, too. Only the other way round we would move very much faster: If we ensure fair pay, money and power will be shared equally at all hierarchical levels.

Therefore, my personal milestone in 2020 is the introduction of the Universal Fair Pay Check: An easy step for companies, but a big step towards fair pay. Since October, the certification process has been paving the way to equal opportunities and fair pay for companies worldwide – regardless of size, location, or organizational form. From the initial analysis to the identification of measures and the closing of pay gaps, the focus lies always on the fruitful exchange with other compensation professionals. Thus, this week we are launching a new series of events: Fair Pay Leaders Talk. My first guest is Vidir Ragnarsson, Group Head of People Analytics at our Icelandic pilot Reykjavík Energy. On December 1, the analysis expert will reveal how Iceland's second largest energy company closed the gender pay gap and how this can be done in a very short time. On December 3, we will focus on the larger questions: How can the change to an equality driven company succeed? In other words: We offer you two more opportunities to gather best practice inspiration for setting the switches right - and maybe set them before the end of the year. You can register here: www.fpi-lab.org/fair-pay-leaders-talk/

I’m convinced: It was not all bad in 2020! I wonder what your milestones were?

Yours, Henrike von Platen
